Kerala plans to establish MICE Promotion Bureau in Kochi

The southern Indian state of Kerala is planning to establish a city-level MICE Promotion Bureau in Kochi to attract more business events.

The Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) Society, a non-profit organisation comprising private industry stakeholders to promote the state, has formally requested the tourism department through a letter to initiate a pilot bureau in Kochi.

“We will take the proposal for the city MICE promotion bureau forward after the conclave. A high-level meeting with the tourism minister (P.A. Mohammed Riyas) is planned, where we will pitch the idea. We will also evaluate possible incentives to attract more business events,” Sikha Surendran, director of Kerala Tourism told TTGmice on the sidelines of the Kerala Wedding & MICE Conclave which took place between August 14-16 in Kochi.

Kerala’s interest in forming a city-level MICE Promotion Bureau comes at a time when India’s Ministry of Tourism is encouraging states to establish such entities. The ministry is currently reworking the entire support framework for business events in the country.

“The approach we are taking is that the state must first set up a city-level MICE Promotion Bureau. If the state government identifies a conference it wishes to attract and commits a certain amount of funding towards it, the government of India will match that contribution dollar-for-dollar.”

Suman Billa, additional secretary of tourism, emphasised the need for a unified strategy to attract major conferences to India. He noted that other global cities, including Dubai, Melbourne, and Frankfurt, have found success with similar models.

Forums and workshops will cover subjects from the future of hotels and business events tourism to sustainability certifications and effective F&B business development. A key focus will be on the integration of new technologies, including AI, robotics, and virtual reality, with companies like Microsoft, Oracle, and Meta showcasing their solutions.

The event will also highlight Da Nang’s position as a leading MICE destination, with discussions aimed at helping local businesses optimize operations and keep pace with other Asian destinations. A signature highlight will be the launch of the Vietnam – The World’s Culinary Capital project, a new initiative to promote Vietnamese gastronomy globally.

Malaysian event technology company, Evenesis, is gearing up to expand its products and services into Singapore, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia, following a recent funding boost from VentureTECH, a government-established investment firm dedicated to scaling high-potential Malaysian enterprises.

Founder and CEO, Yusno Yunos, revealed that local partners have already been secured in Indonesia and Singapore, with plans to establish local operations in both markets by end 2025.

Evenesis’ core offering is its end-to-end cloud-based event management software, launched in 2011, which enables event organisers to manage every stage of an event seamlessly.

The platform supports functions such as registration, ticketing and payment processing, attendee tracking, data analytics, and on-site check-in management, providing organisers with an integrated, efficient, and data-driven approach to event execution.

On August 7 at EventXpo 2025, Evenesis unveiled three new AI-powered event solutions designed to personalise and reimagine event engagements.

Social Wall enables event delegates to capture photos, post messages, and have these instantly displayed on a digital canvas, fostering connections and making networking more engaging and effortless.

Next, AI Photobooth enhances photo portraits with AI-generated, themed filters, adding a creative and playful dimension to event mementos. Lastly, Mixed Reality Experience immerses participants in a 360-degree environment that seamlessly blends physical and digital elements, creating highly interactive and memorable experiences.

Yusno shared: “We received lot of interest from the events industry who are keen to customise the Mixed Reality Experience to create unique, high-impact engagement for their audiences.

“Many see our products as a tool not only to enhance the event atmosphere, but also to deliver immersive storytelling, showcase products in more dynamic ways, and provide attendees with memorable, shareable experiences that extend the event’s reach well beyond its physical venue.”

Evenesis will showcase these new solutions also at the Bali Tourism Awards on August 22, and at the AIx Tourism Conference 2025 at Dorsett Grand Subang on September 11.

In Singapore, its partner, Variety Communications, will explore similar opportunities to present and demonstrate Evenesis’ technologies at relevant trade shows, networking events, and industry conferences.

IATA World Sustainability Symposium touches down in Hong Kong

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) will hold its third World Sustainability Symposium (WSS) in Hong Kong on October 21-22, 2025, marking the first time the event has been hosted in Asia.

The symposium, hosted by Cathay Pacific, will convene leaders from aviation, energy, finance, and policy to accelerate the industry’s push for net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s director general, said: “We are at a crucial point. Airlines are fully committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. But we have not seen sufficient, timely action by policymakers, aerospace manufacturers, oil companies, or fuel producers to support this commitment…”

The event is timed to follow the 42nd ICAO Assembly and precede COP30, aiming to bridge these two global milestones. Discussions will focus on practical solutions to key challenges, including removing hurdles to expanding Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, attracting the necessary financing for the estimated US$4.7 trillion cost of decarbonization, integrating new technologies from both established companies and startups, and increasing collaboration across the entire aviation value chain.

The symposium will feature a leadership conversation between Patrick Healy, chair of the Cathay Group, and Willie Walsh to review progress on decarbonisation. Speakers include Jun Ma, chairman of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association; Fabiano Piccino of Kuehne+Nagel; Jouk Boeye of HSBC; Christopher Au of WTW; and Ayesha Choudhury of Infinium.

New facilities director for BCEC

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has appointed a new facilities director, Cliff Jones.

In his new role, Jones takes on responsibility for the Centre’s Building Services, Facilities Management and Security and Safet, as well as Sustainability and Community Engagement, overseeing a team of more than 40 staff.

He brings vast experience in large commercial organisations and hospitality sectors across Australia and Asia.

Jones replaces Ian Chalmers who has transitioned into a new role as he approaches retirement following an extraordinary career with ASM Global including 27 years at BCEC and three years at Suncorp Stadium.

Korean Air reopens lounges at Incheon with new designs and facilities

Korean Air has completed the first phase of its lounge renewal project at Incheon International Airport, reopening the redesigned Miler Club and Prestige East (Right) Lounge on August 18 and launching two new Prestige Garden Lounges following the airport’s recent expansion.

The renewal programme forms part of the airline’s infrastructure investment ahead of its integration with Asiana Airlines.

The redesigned lounges include separate areas for dining, relaxation, work and wellness. Facilities include open kitchens where chefs prepare dishes on-site, buffet options with Korean and Western selections, a bakery, salad bar, cocktail service, and barista-prepared coffee. Menus will rotate quarterly. Other amenities include a wellness area with massage chairs, a technology zone, meeting space, shower facilities and private powder rooms.

The interiors combine modern materials with traditional Korean design elements. The Miler Club and Prestige East Lounge feature Hanok-inspired structures alongside a colour scheme of gold, charcoal, black and ivory, reflecting Korean Air’s premium cabin style.

The Prestige Garden East Lounge overlooks a Korean-style outdoor garden, while the Prestige Garden West Lounge faces a Western-style garden. Both provide F&B service.

Further renovations are scheduled for completion in 2026, including the First Class Lounge, Prestige East (Left) Lounge and Prestige West Lounge. First Class passengers will temporarily use the Miler Club during this period.

Korean Air’s lounge space at Incheon will expand from 5,105m² to 12,270m², with seating capacity rising from 898 to 1,566.
