The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) have lined up six major international conferences scheduled between 2027 and 2029.
Covering healthcare, life sciences, technology, and engineering, the events are expected to draw 19,000 delegates to the Japanese capital, including 7,000 international visitors.
The line-up kicks off in August 2027, when the Ariake Central Tower Hall & Conference hosts the joint Asian Oncology Nursing Society and International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care conference, expecting 1,050 attendees. Later that year, the Tokyo International Forum will welcome 4,000 delegates for the International Gynecologic Cancer Society Annual Global Meeting in November, followed by SIGGRAPH Asia 2027 in late November, which is projected to draw 10,000 visitors.
The momentum continues into September 2028, with the Takanawa Gateway Convention Centre hosting 1,000 delegates for the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems. Looking ahead to 2029, the Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba will host 2,000 participants for the 51st International Conference on Software Engineering in April, before the Keio Plaza Hotel rounds out the schedule in September with 1,100 attendees for the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand meeting.
The portfolio aligns closely with Tokyo’s core research strengths. The city placed second globally for technology events in the ICCA 2025 rankings, while continuing to expand its medical footprint. Overall, Tokyo ranked 10th globally and third in the Asia-Pacific region, hosting 119 eligible conferences.
