BCD Travel demonstrates its capability to support large-scale global organisations like GE Vernova
BCD Travel has been selected as the global travel partner for GE Vernova Inc. following a review of the energy company’s travel operations.
The decision consolidates corporate and rotational crew workforce travel across 106 countries under a single global model, marking a significant operational shift after more than 30 years with the company’s previous provider. This partnership replaces previously fragmented operations handled by multiple travel management providers with an integrated solution powered by BCD technology.
BCD Travel demonstrates its capability to support large-scale global organisations like GE Vernova
The transition comes during a period of rapid growth for GE Vernova, which has seen increased market demand in energy, electrification, and infrastructure alongside recent global acquisitions that have expanded its traveller base. Implementation of the global programme is currently underway, with official go-live targeted for early September 2026.
“Selecting BCD was a strategic decision aligned with our transformation and growth ambitions,” said Bernadette Basterfield, executive global sourcing – travel/meetings & fleet at GE Vernova. “We were looking for more than a provider. With BCD, we found a partner that can modernise our global travel programme, consolidate complexity, and support our future at scale.”
A primary factor in the selection process was BCD’s ability to simplify bookings, improve traveller engagement, and strengthen compliance through its proprietary TripSource platform.
To manage its complex rotational workforce and crew travel, GE Vernova will utilise BCD’s TripPlanner technology and Energy, Resources, and Marine division. This system provides access to specialist travel agents, round-the-clock connected servicing, and dedicated industry fares designed to streamline crew movements and lower expenses.
Stephan Baars, CEO at BCD, credited the successful partnership to strong internal alignment and close collaboration among GE Vernova’s procurement, travel leadership, and operational teams. He emphasised that this unified internal support created the foundation for a scalable travel programme capable of adapting to GE Vernova’s expanding workforce and global footprint.

The bursary strengthen connections between research and industry
The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) and Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ) are inviting applications for a new bursary that will provide up to A$25,000 (US$16,300) to support early to mid-career life sciences researchers in Queensland.
Developed through the BCEC Convention Advocates Partnership as part of BCEC’s 30th anniversary initiatives and LSQ’s 15th anniversary, the BCEC LSQ Bio-Innovation Bursary aims to strengthen links between research and industry. It is open to researchers working across fields including medical, agricultural and biofuels innovation.

The funding can be used for activities that support industry collaboration and research translation, including collaborative projects, industry placements, commercialisation initiatives, specialised resources and targeted engagement opportunities.
Eligible applicants are researchers in Queensland’s life sciences sector who are typically between two and 12 years post-PhD, with a strong track record relative to opportunity and the potential to translate research into industry outcomes.
Applications will be assessed on the proposed activity’s contribution to industry engagement and research translation, as well as the applicant’s achievements and future potential. The recipient will be selected through an independent review process and recognised alongside the Gene Awards recipients at the LSQ Gene Awards on September 11, 2026.
LSQ chair Frank Gannon said: “This bursary provides researchers with the flexibility to build on their work and extend its reach and relevance in ways that might not otherwise be possible. It is designed to build momentum at a pivotal point in a researcher’s career and support the continued growth of Queensland’s life sciences sector.”
Kym Guesdon, general manager of the Legends Global-managed BCEC, added: “While convention centres are often defined by the events they host, this bursary demonstrates a broader role. Through our Convention Advocates Partnership, we’re embedded in the sectors behind those events and the people driving them.
“Working alongside Life Sciences Queensland, it’s fitting that this initiative focuses on supporting emerging leaders at a time of accelerating innovation.
“The Gene Awards are an important platform for recognising excellence in life sciences, making them a natural home for this work as we invest in future leaders and the continued strength of the sector.”
Congress Australia has introduced a silent conference rental solution based on Auracast, becoming what the company believes is the first provider to offer the Bluetooth LE Audio technology for professional conferences and business events.
Designed for conferences, exhibitions and corporate events, the system combines active noise-cancelling headphones with wireless broadcast audio, supporting more than 10 audio channels for simultaneous presentations, multilingual sessions and breakout areas.

Unlike traditional silent conference systems developed for entertainment, the new platform has been designed for speech clarity, delegate comfort and business event applications.
Auracast, part of the Bluetooth LE Audio standard, allows a single audio source to broadcast wirelessly to multiple compatible devices. Congress Australia said its system has been developed as a complete rental solution, available as either dry hire or with technical support.
The headphones were developed in collaboration with an Australian company, with input from Bluetooth SIG during technical validation of the Auracast application.
According to Congress Australia, the system can support exhibition presentations, silent theatres, workshops, product launches, training sessions and events where multiple audio streams are required without noise interference. Delegates using compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds or headphones may also be able to connect using their own devices.
Congress Australia said the new system complements rather than replaces infrared silent conference technology, which it will continue to offer for applications requiring secure line-of-sight transmission or very large audience capacities.

The 8.9km Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway is the longest and tallest bridge in the Philippines
Cebu’s long-standing status as a vacation destination is fuelling a surge in its business events sector.
With the arrival of dedicated convention centres, the province is scaling its capacity to match its connectivity, driven by more than 1,300 weekly international and domestic flights, alongside a growing inventory of top-tier hotels and venues.

The sector’s transformation culminates later this year with the debut of SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu. Boasting over 21,000m2 of leasable space, the facility will become the largest convention centre in the Philippines.
This venue provides an alternative for the exhibitions, conventions, and global-scale gatherings that previously had to be staged in Metro Manila, said Walid Wafik, senior vice president of operations for SM Hotels and Conventions Corp.
Walid also highlighted a developing ecosystem in the South Road Properties corridor. This compact district includes the upcoming SM Seaside Arena, new hotel developments, and a concentration of retail and leisure options for delegates.
“While SM Seaside Arena hosts large-scale concerts, sporting events, and major entertainment productions, SMX Seaside Cebu can simultaneously support the exhibitions, conferences, and trade components that often accompany them. This synergy enables organisers to stage events that combine multiple formats, which used to only be possible in Manila,” Walid elaborated.
On the other side of the province, Mactan Expo launched in January 2026 as the host venue for the ASEAN Tourism Forum’s TRAVEX. Located within the 30-hectare The Mactan Newtown, it is Cebu’s first business events facility fully integrated into a ‘live-work-play-attend’ township.
Cleofe Albiso, managing director of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts – the Philippines’ largest hotel operator by room count – said that The Mactan Newtown was designed to allow delegates attending events at Mactan Expo to stay at hotels in the vicinity – Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown and Mactan Mercure Cebu.
To support the growing bleisure trend, guests can easily enjoy dining, retail, and beachfront leisure experiences all within walking distance, including access to the Mactan Newtown Beach, Albiso said.
Albiso added that Megaworld is prioritising “inclusive hospitality” through Muslim-friendly and halal accreditations, multilingual engagement, and a ‘Sampaguita Brand of Service’ designed to project Filipino warmth to international delegates.
Cebu’s status as a top-tier destination for incentive travel is backed by data. Tourism Promotions Board’s (TPB) chief operating officer, Margarita Nograles, noted the province welcomed over 2,200 incentive participants last year, 70 per cent of whom arrived from South Korea. She attributed this dominance to direct air connectivity, and a mature outbound incentive market.
New visa-free entry for China and streamlined processing for India and Taiwan are further accelerating the sector’s growth. These policy shifts allow Cebu’s business events stakeholders to align their marketing strategies toward capturing these high-growth segments.
Regarding India, Nograles identified it as a “fast-growing source market” with high demand for large, experience-led group travel. She noted that the combination of improved connectivity and eased visa restrictions provides significant headroom for further growth from the subcontinent.
Mactan Expo was purpose-built
Nograles emphasised that Cebu remains a top priority for TPB, with promotional efforts intensifying alongside the rollout of new infrastructure.
“At the destination level, TPB works closely with the Cebu MICE Alliance – a coordinated network of hotels, venues, and DMCs – to collaborate on bid preparation, programme design, and event delivery,” she elaborated.
This collaboration allows the province to present “unified and competitive proposals”, a strategy further bolstered by the Philippine MICE Cities Program. According to Nograles, the programme “supports destinations in strengthening their positioning, stakeholder coordination, and overall readiness to compete for international events”.
Central Visayas’ Department of Tourism overall-in-charge, Gelena Asis-Dimpas, credits the private sector with driving this momentum.
“The private sector here is involved in improving both infrastructure and systems, and this energy propels us forward in MICE tourism,” she said.
Following its hosting of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, ASEAN Tourism Forum, and 11th International Travel Festival in March, Cebu’s 2026 calendar remains packed. Upcoming events include the Junior World Showcase Asia in July, and Build Better 2026 conference in August.
