Malaysia will host the 38th International Conference on Microelectronics (ICM) for the first time in over three decades, with Sarawak successfully winning the bid to convene the flagship event.
Scheduled from December 7 to 10, 2026, at the Borneo Cultures Museum in Kuching, the conference is expected to gather more than 300 international engineers, academics, and industry leaders to discuss emerging advances in circuits, systems, and semiconductor design.
Key themes will emphasise hardware optimisation for artificial intelligence, sustainable microelectronics, and energy-efficient computing. Alongside academic presentations, the multi-day agenda includes live demonstrations, industry tours, a Sino-Malaysia workshop, and dedicated forums for technical standards.
Organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Circuits and Systems Society (IEEE CASS) alongside its Malaysia Chapter, the event is projected to generate RM2.5 million (US$618,124) in immediate economic impact for the state while bolstering the region’s long-term semiconductor capabilities.
Additional partners supporting the initiative include Business Events Sarawak, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, SMD Semiconductor, and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. Selected papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in top-tier IEEE journals.
The event aligns directly with Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which focuses on accelerating digital transformation, high-tech manufacturing, and local talent development.
