Australia targets outbound Indian incentives with dedicated fund

Cope: India Bid Fund Program strengthens Australia's competitiveness

Tourism Australia has introduced its first dedicated funding commitment specifically for incentive trips from India, building on the support its global Business Events Bid Fund Program has provided to Indian groups since 2018.

“India is a rapidly growing market for Australia’s business events sector, driven by an expanding corporate base and rising demand for incentive travel,” said Sally Cope, executive general manager industry and business events at Tourism Australia.

“The new funding initiative reflects the market’s growing maturity and our confidence in its long-term potential. It’s designed to make Australia more compelling for large-scale incentive programmes while backing the evolving needs of Indian corporates and planners.”

In partnership with local convention bureaux, the India Bid Fund Program supports eligible Indian groups by co-funding specific on-ground costs, including accommodation, venue hire, and transport.

To qualify, corporate incentive groups must draw at least 400 international delegates, travel and return before May 31, 2027, and stay a minimum of four nights. Each application requires matching funds from the relevant Australian convention bureau.

“The programme strengthens Australia’s competitiveness by making it easier for planners to prioritise our destinations for incentive trips,” added Cope. “Just as importantly, it advances our broader objective of positioning Australia as a place where the program extends well beyond the meeting room, giving delegates real reason to explore more of the country.”

To support the rollout, Tourism Australia hosted events in Mumbai and Delhi in June 2026 and appointed a dedicated business events manager in India to collaborate with local planners and corporate stakeholders.

Latest Tourism Research Australia IVS data shows Indian business events visitation grew 10 per cent in the year to March 2026, bringing over 46,000 delegates and nearly A$282 million (US$201 million) in expenditure to Australia.

“Looking ahead, we see continued opportunity as Indian organisations seek impactful and immersive incentive experiences. The team’s focus remains on working closely with our industry partners to showcase the depth and diversity of what Australia has to offer,” concluded Cope.
