A Tokyo-based alliance is presenting event venues with a new approach to technology in the face of rising costs to update ageing hardware and shortages of expert labour.
The partnership between Vega Japan, a technology service and audiovisual integration provider, and VPS Services Group, an AV fintech company, is responding to Japan’s lagging approach to business events technology despite growing demand for seamless, high-impact and immersive experiences.
A 2025 study by the Japan Tourism Agency found that 90 per cent of Japan’s MICE facilities had “limited investment in functional enhancements” due to being “preoccupied with addressing ageing infrastructure and safety concerns”.
Japan’s business events industry professionals, meanwhile, tend to carry out insufficient information gathering on trends and organiser needs compared to their counterparts across the region, according to the report.
Vega and VPS hope their new technology-as-a-service and revenue-sharing models can help advance Japan’s business events industry along the digital transformation curve.
The pair handles the acquisition, management and disposal of cutting-edge event technology, which ranges from projection mapping and high-definition curved LED walls to AV systems with intuitive controls that enable operation with minimal instruction.
In addition, staff from Vega are deployed to venues to provide expertise on marketing the enhanced facilities as well as comprehensive technical and production support, empowering event organisers to deliver impactful presentations and live events, Richard Johns, managing director of Vega Japan, told TTGmice.
“AV is an evolving capability rather than a fixed asset. We enable venues to upgrade, scale and stay ahead without locking up capital, all within a framework that aligns AV utilisation payments with event revenue,” added Niall Morrissey, managing director of VPS Services Group.
