Designed to meet growing industry complexity and economic pressures, the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference 2026 brought together exhibitors and regional stakeholders to foster high-value connections through curated networking initiatives and specialised exhibition zones
Event brief
TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference 2026 returned to Singapore from May 10 to 14, 2026, with a high-calibre speakers’ line-up and refreshed event format designed to reflect the changing landscape of global travel retail.
Bringing together airports, retailers, brands, distributors and industry stakeholders from across Asia Pacific and beyond, the event introduced new concepts this year, including World of Innovation, Taste of the World and a TFWA Launchpad programme, alongside a category-led exhibition layout aimed at improving navigation, discovery and business engagement.
Event highlights
The TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference 2026 generated strong interest and highlighted emerging trends in duty free and travel retail over the course of its five-day programme.
To further enhance business value, TFWA strengthened its engagement and networking initiatives through the ONE2ONE meeting platform, dedicated networking spaces and curated hospitality experiences.
These included the TFWA Asia Pacific Lounge, Welcome Cocktail, and TFWA Speakeasy Closing Event, each thoughtfully designed to foster meaningful connections and relationship-building throughout the event. New features such as World of Innovation and Taste of the World also drew significant interest and engagement for attendees.
Networking remained a defining strength, with more than 1,000 participants attending activities at the TFWA Asia Pacific Lounge and over 1,000 guests joining the Welcome Cocktail.
Challenges
As the exhibition has expanded year-on-year across multiple product categories and sectors, one key challenge was ensuring that visitors could efficiently navigate the show floor and maximise the value of their time. With a growing number of exhibitors and increasingly specialised business interests, TFWA sought to create a more intuitive visitor journey while facilitating more targeted commercial interactions.
The exhibition also took place amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, shifting traveller behaviour and economic pressures across key markets. In this environment, exhibitors and visitors were placing greater importance on measurable business outcomes, making it essential for the event to deliver high-quality meetings, networking opportunities and commercial value.
To address the challenge of increasing exhibition scale and complexity, as well as the industry’s evolving focus beyond traditional product categories, TFWA introduced a redesigned exhibition format organised into category-led “Worlds”. This created a clearer and more structured visitor experience. The new layout grouped complementary sectors together, improving navigation while encouraging more focused business conversations between exhibitors and buyers.
To meet the increased demand for measurable business outcomes in a challenging global environment, TFWA enhanced its commercial and networking ecosystem. This included scaling the ONE2ONE meeting platform to enable pre-scheduled, high-value meetings, alongside curated networking spaces and hospitality experiences that encouraged meaningful relationship-building. Together, these initiatives ensured that participants could maximise their time on-site and achieve tangible business results.
The new Worlds format delivered strong commercial and visitor engagement, validating the redesigned exhibition layout.
The 2026 event welcomed 2,814 visitors – including representatives from a record 58 airports across the globe – as well as 200 exhibitors, 60 of whom were first-timers. The event also facilitated 955 pre-scheduled ONE2ONE meetings, while the Agora sessions attracted 662 attendees.
Post-event feedback from exhibitors and visitors highlighted the category-led layout as a success, citing improved navigation, enhanced product visibility, stronger category merchandising, and more targeted, productive commercial discussions.
