Sarawak advances towards the goals of PCDS 2030

Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) has met with Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg to outline the region’s next phase of business events growth and align future bidding strategies with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Led by minister for tourism, creative industry and performing arts Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the delegation discussed leveraging conventions, exhibitions, and corporate meetings to drive investment, talent development, and local economic impact as regional competition across South-east Asia increases.

“Sarawak has built a strong international reputation in business events, strengthened by our focus on legacy-driven outcomes. With the Sarawak Government’s continued support, we are well positioned to attract bigger opportunities and ensure benefits extend across more sectors and communities,” he said.

Key focus areas discussed include expanding venue and accommodation capacity, improving infrastructure, and boosting air connectivity. Highlighting upcoming developments – such as the construction of the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 and expanded flights via AirBorneo – officials noted Sarawak is positioned to capture greater market share across the Asia-Pacific region.

Hii Chang Kee, deputy state secretary (operation) and chairman of BESarawak, emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration and coordination to ensure business events contribute to Sarawak’s wider development.

Jason Tan Chin Foo, CEO of BESarawak, added: “As Sarawak advances towards the goals of PCDS 2030, BESarawak will continue to strengthen the alignment between its business events pipeline and Sarawak’s priority sectors, creating more opportunities to bring knowledge, innovation and partnerships that support Sarawak’s broader development.”
