Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) will bring the Sustainable Event Professional Certificate (SEPC) programme to East Malaysia for the first time, as part of efforts to strengthen sustainability across the region’s business events industry.
Developed in collaboration with the Events Industry Council (EIC), the programme is intended to build industry capability and support the long-term development of Sarawak’s business events sector as sustainability becomes a greater priority for organisers and destinations.

The agreement between BESarawak and the EIC was signed at IMEX Frankfurt 2026. The programme will provide industry professionals with training on integrating sustainability into event planning, operations, partnerships, measurement and long-term legacy outcomes.
BESarawak said the initiative supports its focus on developing talent, strengthening partnerships and advancing sustainability leadership, while contributing to Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.
“What makes SEPC important is that it is not only about making events greener. Sustainability can be integrated into decision-making, operations, partnerships, measurement, and long-term impact creation across the entire business events ecosystem,” stated Jason Tan Chin Foo, CEO of BESarawak.
“Through initiatives like SEPC, we are strengthening industry capabilities while advancing Sarawak’s vision for sustainable economic growth, environmental responsibility, and inclusive community impact.”
