In a push to position India as a leading global destination for business events, the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and Ministry of Tourism have unveiled plans to set up a Delhi NCR MICE Promotion Bureau.

The proposed bureau will market the capital region as a unified MICE destination, promoting its world-class convention and exhibition infrastructure, including the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, and Yashobhoomi (India International Convention & Expo Centre) in New Delhi, alongside the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida.

The announcement was made by Neeraj Kharwal, managing director of ITPO, during a business events-focused session during the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH) event, held in New Delhi from July 16 to 17.

In addition to the setting up of the Delhi NCR MICE Promotion Bureau, Kharwal also revealed intentions to set up the Bharat MICE Forum.

“Discussions have already been held, and we expect the forum to take shape within the next few months. To elevate India to a position of global leadership in the MICE sector, ITPO will work in close collaboration with all key stakeholders, including states, the Ministry of Tourism, and travel trade bodies like FAITH,” added Kharwal.

India’s Ministry of Tourism is also urging states to set up dedicated event bureaus to boost the country’s global appeal, having already held regional consultations in Goa and Assam to drive the initiative forward.

“MICE promotion involves two critical pillars: marketing and structure. To address the structural aspect, we are actively encouraging states to create state- and city-level MICE bureaus that can officially bid for international conferences on behalf of their destinations.

“I am hopeful that by the end of 2026, at least five such MICE promotion bureaus will be set up in the country,” said Hari Kishore, joint secretary, Ministry of Tourism, and chairman, India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB).

Chander Mansharamani, vice chairman of ICPB, added that an aggressive and sustained international marketing strategy will be equally critical to positioning India as a preferred destination for global conventions and business events.
