Powering up Penrith

Hilti Australia gathered over 600 construction professionals at the Western Sydney Convention Centre and Panthers Precinct for a multi-day conference, transforming 3,000m2 of outdoor space into live demo zones and delivering a significant economic boost to the City of Penrith

Event brief
Hilti Australia selected the Western Sydney Convention Centre (WSCC) and the integrated Panthers Precinct to host its two-day Power Up Product Launch and Conference, bringing together more than 600 construction industry professionals, including employees, customers, and industry stakeholders.

As a global leader in construction technology and solutions, Hilti Australia required a venue capable of supporting both high-impact conferencing and extensive outdoor activations simultaneously. WSCC’s integrated precinct offered the ideal environment, combining flexible indoor event spaces, expansive outdoor car park areas and conveniently connected accommodation across the Precinct.

Designed to educate, engage, and inspire, the event combined a large-scale conference, product launches, live demonstrations, networking opportunities, and premium hospitality experiences within a single destination.

Event highlights
Utilising more than 4,000m2 of indoor and outdoor event space across the precinct, the conference featured immersive plenary sessions, eight live demonstration zones, a major vehicle launch, interactive product displays, and hands-on brand experiences. Delegates moved seamlessly between conference sessions, accommodation, outdoor activations and evening functions, demonstrating the strength of the integrated precinct and its ability to deliver complex, multi-day business events with ease.

A standout feature was the transformation of more than 3,000m2 of external car park space into eight live demonstration zones, where delegates experienced hands-on demonstrations including drilling, direct fastening, concrete cutting and breaking. Combined with interactive product displays, branded foyer activations and a high-impact vehicle launch, the event delivered an engaging showcase of Hilti’s latest innovations while allowing conference sessions and live demonstrations to operate simultaneously.

The WSCC foyer was also extensively activated with product displays, branded installations, arcade-style games, and information displays, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere from the moment attendees arrived and throughout the event breaks. One of the standout moments of the event was the launch of new vehicles which created a strong visual impact and generated significant delegate engagement.

The delegate experience was further enhanced through premium hospitality, with day delegate catering designed to encourage networking and movement between indoor sessions and outdoor activations, followed by an immersive vintage carnival-themed gala dinner featuring a premium three-course menu. The event generated more than 300 room nights across Pullman Sydney Penrith and Mercure Penrith and delivered an estimated economic impact exceeding A$500,000 (US$395,355) for the City of Penrith.

Through meticulous planning, strong stakeholder collaboration and seamless operational delivery, the event demonstrated WSCC’s capability to host complex, large-scale conferences that integrate education, hands-on experiences, and premium hospitality within one connected precinct.

Challenges
The main challenge was delivering a seamless event that combined a traditional conference with large-scale outdoor product demonstrations in one integrated venue. The main aspect being converting more than 3,000m2 of operational car park into a safe, functional live demonstration zone capable of supporting heavy-duty construction equipment and activities.

This required close collaboration between the WSCC event manager, suppliers, and precinct stakeholders to manage traffic control, vehicle access, weight restrictions, safety compliance, and live equipment logistics.

Additional operational challenges during exhibitor bump-in, including forklift delays and extended car park closures, were managed through proactive communication and coordinated stakeholder management, ensuring minimal disruption to the overall event experience. Strong collaboration across venue operations, suppliers and event stakeholders was instrumental in delivering a seamless event from bump-in through to bump-out.
