Marriott International, in collaboration with Malaysia’s national and regional convention bureaus, has launched Destination Convention Malaysia – a new joint platform designed to market the country as a multi-destination hub for regional event planners across Asia-Pacific.

Unveiled during the Malaysia Means Business industry forum at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, the strategic initiative pairs Marriott with the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), and Sabah Convention Bureau. The platform aims to connect Kuala Lumpur’s primary convention infrastructure directly with nature, cultural, and incentive-driven travel options across Sarawak, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia.

The move comes as destination event planners increasingly prioritise personalised delegate itineraries, wellness, and local cultural experiences alongside standard venue logistics.

“Regional planners increasingly want destinations that can provide strong infrastructure while also giving delegates a meaningful experience outside the formal programme,” said George Varughese, market vice president, Malaysia, Marriott International. “Through Destination Convention Malaysia, we want to make that full proposition more visible and accessible.”

The initiative leverages Marriott’s footprint of 65 hotels in Malaysia, including major hubs like the Marriott Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Convention Centre, Desaru Coast Conference Centre, and the recently-managed Langkawi International Convention Centre.

According to MyCEB, Malaysia’s business events pipeline remains strong, with 416 events secured between 2026 and 2030, projected to deliver an estimated economic impact of approximately RM4 billion (US$982.5 million).
