Major infrastructure upgrades and new venues took centrestage as Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) wrapped its annual four-city roadshow, pitching to 135 event planners across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide.
The Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Tropical Showcase highlighted several key regional developments, including the upcoming opening of the Hilton Palm Cove Cairns Resort & Spa, the Morris Group’s redevelopment of Double Island, and an ongoing A$85 million (U$60 million) upgrade to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.
TTNQ partnerships and events’ general manager Tara Bennett noted that a delegation of 21 local suppliers pitched to conference organisers and incentive agents amid a surge in domestic event inquiries.
“We are seeing increased inquiries for domestic events, including short-lead business, making the timing ideal to connect planners with Tropical North Queensland suppliers,” Bennett said.
In addition to major infrastructure projects, the showcase promoted new half-day Great Barrier Reef itineraries, repurposed offsite venues, and bureau support services such as site inspections and funding assistance.
