Goyang Destination Week 2026 brought together industry leaders, academics, local stakeholders, and citizens from August 26 to 29, driving new initiatives to expand the city’s global business events portfolio.
A key outcome of the four-day event was a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Goyang International Expo Foundation and consultancy firm GainingEdge. The agreement focuses on identifying and attracting international association conferences aligned with Goyang’s strategic growth sectors. Under the partnership, both organisations will collaborate on joint overseas marketing, exchange industry trends, and establish network connections with international convention bureaus to bolster Goyang’s market competitiveness.

During the event, the Goyang Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), a division of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, also appointed two global MICE Ambassadors: Gary Grimmer, executive chairman of GainingEdge, and Thomas Reiser, former executive director of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Leveraging their association-sector expertise, the ambassadors will assist in raising Goyang’s international profile and expanding its global event network.
Beyond the conference, Goyang CVB has secured several new international events through bid support, site inspections, and tailored planner assistance. These include the 2027 Korean Society for Horticultural Science Conference, which aligns with the city’s core horticulture and floriculture industries, laying the groundwork for future academic collaboration and bids for the International Horticultural Congress.
In addition, the Flesh and Blood TCG World Tour, which took place earlier in September, demonstrated the destination’s operational capacity to host large-scale global entertainment and gaming events alongside traditional academic conventions.
