Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has opened a permanent Quiet Space to support delegates, exhibitors and visitors who require a low-stimulation environment during events.
The dedicated room is designed for guests with sensory sensitivities, those feeling overwhelmed or anyone needing a quiet space away from event activity. It features soft furnishings, calming lighting, a memory foam tatami mat, fidget tools, a bubble lamp, and access to noise-cancelling headphones and earmuffs through the venue’s reception.
The project was led by Te Pae Christchurch’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee in consultation with Autism New Zealand.
The venue said the Quiet Space forms part of its wider accessibility programme, which also includes participation in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and Hāpai Access Card programmes, as well as a virtual venue tour to help visitors prepare for their arrival.
