The Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre has secured the Well Health-Safety Rating, becoming the first convention facility in the Asia-Pacific region to earn the international certification.
The milestone follows the venue’s recent 5-Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, which evaluates environmentally sustainable building design and construction.
Administered by the International WELL Building Institute, the Well certification required third-party verification across 16 features. These operational measures focused on enhanced cleaning and sanitisation, improved indoor air quality via high-efficiency filtration, emergency preparedness, health policies, and ongoing air and water management.
Additionally, the venue’s 5-Star Green Star rating highlights its reduced environmental impact through effective carbon, water, and construction material management, as well as responsible procurement that supports broader community health.
“From day one, our focus has been on delivering exceptional event experiences while supporting the wellbeing of our visitors and staff. These credentials demonstrate that commitment is embedded in both the design and operation of the venue,” said Nyaal Banyul general manager Rick Aylett.
The precinct was developed in partnership with Plenary Group and constructed by Built. Representatives from Plenary, Nyaal Banyul, the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, and architecture firm Woods Bagot will discuss the venue’s development during a panel at the Victorian Regional Design Fair as part of Geelong Design Week.
