The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) unveiled the MICE Sustainability Roadmap 2.0 earlier this week at the Singapore MICE Forum (SMF).
This expanded national framework was announced by guest-of-honour Gan Siow Huang, Singapore’s minister of state for trade and industry and foreign affairs.

Building directly on the foundation of the original 2022 environmental roadmap, Version 2.0 broadens the industry’s commitments across three pillars – environmental, social, and economic sustainability – marking a strategic shift toward comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards across the region.
To support this broader mandate, STB and SACEOS have established clear, actionable targets across all three pillars.
Under the Environmental targets, STB and SACEOS will develop a MICE Decarbonisation Framework by 2028 for purpose-built venues to actively curb emissions and waste, alongside ongoing tracking efforts to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
For Social targets, STB and SACEOS will establish a structured partnership framework by 2027 to streamline collaboration between event organisers, suppliers, and partners, followed by a MICE Industry Social Impact Playbook in 2028 to ensure events create inclusive, lasting benefits for local communities.
Lastly, Economic targets include conducting a comprehensive study by 2028 detailing the commercial business case for sustainability, enabling business events enterprises to understand, quantify, and act on the financial return of sustainable practices.
“As we enter the next phase of the MICE Sustainability Roadmap, we are setting clear, measurable targets for the industry to rally behind, expanding our remit to cover environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This reflects our belief that a truly sustainable MICE destination must deliver lasting value not just for the environment, but for the local community and businesses as well,” said Carrie Kwik, executive director, conventions, meetings & incentive travel, STB.
By formalising social and economic metrics alongside environmental goals, Singapore reinforces its position as a leading sustainable event destination, helping drive the sector toward its long-term target of S$4.5 billion (US$3.5 billion) in business events tourism receipts by 2040.
